Takara Tomy Announces End of Service

Takara Tomy has finally made a statement about the future of English support and I cry and talk about what this means for the future.

News

Four months ago, I published an article on why now is a great time to jump into WIXOSS on the heels of the launch of Mayu’s Room. In the article, I talked about how the invites to Mugen Shoujo incentivizes players to be competitive, how the English release of WX24 would mark a perfect entry point into the game, and how welcoming and friendly WIXOSS players and the community is as a whole. Today, I am writing to follow up with the official word that Takara Tomy has released and what that means moving forward.

The Announcement

Almost ironically, I was shopping for clothes to wear to a funeral when I became aware of the announcement (literally mid-Macy’s fitting room, hahaha). Takara Tomy had taken to the official WIXOSS EN accounts to post the full announcement, which you can read here. In the announcement, they stated that they “regret to announce that we will be concluding sales and development of the English version of WIXOSS” and that they “deeply apologize to all Selectors who played WIXOSS, to all those who supported us, to all the stores that carried our products, and to all related parties for failing to meet your expectations.”

I don’t think this announcement comes as a shock to most U.S. players, especially since we’ve been waiting for news on, well, anything since the last GP announcement in April. Still, some players — myself included — held on to a small glimmer of hope that the game might continue to be supported.

Continuing with the announcement, Takara Tomy revealed that there will be one final Grand Prix in Seattle. At this event, players can “win special prizes and earn participation rights for the Mugen Shoujo Cup 2025,” along with enjoying side events featuring WIXOSS battles. It’s exciting to see a final send-off that still offers the coveted Mugen Shoujo invite. However, since the event is scheduled for November 29, 2025, many players have already expressed frustration about not being able to attend due to holiday plans and the high cost of travel during that time.

In the final part of the announcement, they stated that in-store events and customer support would be available until November 30, 2025, and expressed their “heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported WIXOSS.”

Now, most of us knew that this was coming, even if we didn’t want to accept it. But, because of this, I think we as a community have already begun to have our own internal discussion of what we would do if this announcement ever officially came, and I think that’s what I would like to highlight in this article.

WIXOSS Is Dead?

First and foremost, I would like to say that WIXOSS is not dead.

Back when WIXOSS was first released in Japan in 2014, it found its way here with some small groups playing the first rendition of the game (All-Star format). A lot of those dedicated players are still online and around today. Fast forward to now and, after talking with a number of the people that I’ve spent time with since I started playing, none of them have any intention of just saying goodbye to a card game they’ve enjoyed for so long, and that’s what really matters.

Now, I think the way we play WIXOSS may change now that we aren’t getting new product, but thankfully OpenBatoru! has definitely helped fill in a gap where accessibility will become an issue. Thanks to the consistent updates that we’ve seen, there have already been a large number of US players that have been playing the JP Diva format already. I think that, with this, we will probably see some players just move from physical product to playing in a virtual space. Hellfyre (developer of Dexoss) has already voiced his own interest in having online JP events now that we know support for the English side is over. Which, if you are interested, you can voice that interest here. I should also say that this is one example of what many other players have also voiced. They still want to play the game regardless of what happens officially.

Getting Personal

The thing that drew me to WIXOSS to start was the community. As I’ve said before and will always stand by, WIXOSS has the best community in TCGs that I have ever been a part of and I don’t want to say goodbye to that community just yet. It makes me sad to think that, after November, I may never have another GP trip to see all these people that I’ve come to know and, honestly, love and respect. But, in reality, I know that while the space may be changing, we’ll still be playing.

In terms of Mayu’s Room, I don’t see any reason to call it quits so long as people are playing and will continue to accept results for past and future formats. We haven’t done a Rumble in a few weeks, so we will work to try and get that back up and running for those who would like a space to continue playing the JP state of the game as well!

Special thank you to all the players and Selectors who have made WIXOSS so special and I look forward to playing again with you soon.
